Being in each other's company

Being in each other's company and be well is a result of being well with the company of ourselves.

We, people, are made to live in families and build societies that will support our growth and development. When we look around us, all we see is the people and structures that people make. That tells a lot about us, our minds and our psyche. What we don't see as much is space. That also reveals a lot about how we think and operate. The moment we find some space, we immediately try to fill it in, regardless of quality and consequences.

If we, on the other hand, see further, we will observe the endless space. Everything is moving, existing, breathing inside this infinite space. As the Buddhist teachings express, "emptiness is form", and "form is emptiness". We have both of these aspects, and for this, our nature is whole and already fulfilled. Being in the company of ourselves is a matter of finding space within ourselves. To meet us and listen to us before we meet and listen to others. This fact will create a more tranquil inner environment, where there is sufficient space for thoughts and feelings to be expressed.

Getting to know ourselves will allow us to get to know others and not assume that we know them. In this simple truth, we can find the meaning of relationships, where people have the freedom to grow to what they choose to grow. Of course, no one can be entirely independent since we live together,  interact and share space and time. It is as if we all create one system with endless manifestations and possibilities.

That is the reason why a yoga retreat is a remarkable way to be in each other's company in an entirely different context. If we compare it with our lives in the city, during a yoga retreat it does not matter whether we are a professor or we work in the fields or if we speak two languages or not.

What matters is how deep we are willing to dive into the moment, how much we strive to be present and alert.

To be continued.
